Google Analytics is the most used tool for user analysis on websites (web analysis). Google Analytics collects data about users on the websites used. Website operators have extensive options for collecting this data according to the desired settings in the configuration menu.
The data can be processed according to certain parameters and evaluated by the site operators in order to track the visits to a page, user behavior or the length of stay. Certain actions (subscribing to a newsletter, downloading an e-book, purchasing products) can also be analyzed via conversion tracking.
Google Analytics uses technologies that enable user recognition for the purpose of analyzing user behavior (e.g. cookies or device fingerprinting). The information collected by Google about the use of this website is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there.
Matomo, formerly Piwik, is an open source tool that companies can use to examine user behavior on their website. To do this, the open source software creates detailed statistics, including on search engines used, search terms, browsers and user origin.
Matomo is able to collect and analyze data about the use of our website by website visitors. This allows Matomo, among other things: Find out when which page views were made and from which region they come. Matomo also collects various log files (e.g. IP address, referrer, browsers used and operating systems) and measures whether our website visitors carry out certain actions (e.g. clicks, purchases, etc.).
